Here are my thoughts on movies. I love to watch them. I hate to pay for them. Very few movies are worth my money and time to watch (lately). When one comes along that I love, I have to share it.
Unfortunately, most movies glorify immorality, selfishness, gore, gluttony, slanderous words and the like. Does Proverbs 6: 16-19 come to mind? - There are six things the LORD hates, seven that are detestable to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that are quick to rush into evil, a false witness who pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among his brothers. (NIV) Hmmm...sound like any Hollywood movies that you know??
Very rarely does a movie come along that makes you laugh and cry and keeps you captivated with wonder and awe the whole time, all while conveying a wholesome message. We watched one of those movies last night. I don't think that I've cried so much during a movie since "Life Is Beautiful". This is a story of hope, faith, love and overcoming the odds. The perspective is right on and it is thoroughly enjoyable. Enough so, that we would like to buy it...Enough so, that we would have seen it in the theaters and spent the movie theater's ridiculously high price to view and support it. (Which lately very rarely happens, since we feel there are very few movies worth spending our hard earned money on.) And just as a side note: it's not one of those poorly acted, cheesy dialogued 'Christian' movies that we all know and dread. Nor are the Christians in this movie portrayed as extreme right-wing nut jobs that are looked upon poorly by non-Christians in society.
What movie could make a woman take the time out of her busy day and to sit and type all this out for others to read??? Well, I'll tell you. The movie is "Soul Surfer".
I had seen trailers for it, and wasn't that impressed. I thought, Big whoop. A girl gets her arm bit off and keeps on surfing. She's nuts. Who would go back into the water again after that? She probably just wants to become famous for being stupid. Man, was I wrong. (Just goes to show, never judge a movie by it's trailer. -haha!)
Another thing that I wasn't too excited about watching, was a whole bunch of really skinny fit girls running around in bikinis. Although there was a lot of that, it wasn't the focus.
I really don't want to ruin the movie for anyone by giving details, but if you want to watch a great inspirational movie that tells how one young girl strengthened her faith in Christ, overcame the odds, became a role model and learned her place in the world, you'll want to watch this movie. -- Oh, and don't forget your tissue box. I don't care how 'tough' you are, you're gonna need it.
So, let me know if you watch it and what you think. I'm very certain you will find it as enjoyable as we did.
